Fairfield Police found the unidentified 24-year-old Trumbull man around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a 911 call from an employee at Wings Over Fairfield, 2075 Black Rock Turnpike, reporting that a man was shot in the back of the building, said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Fairfield police arrived on the scene within seconds and found the man lying on his back in the rear hallway of the restaurant, he said.

He was rushed to St. Vincent's Medical Center where he remains in the intensive care unit but is expected to survive, Kalamaras said.

The gun he was carrying at the time of the shooting was unregistered, he added.

"It is believed at this time that it was accidental based on evidence at the scene and statements made by the victim," Kalamaras said Wednesday. "However, detectives are still looking into whether it may have been intentional."

Police are not sure if any charges will be filed against the man or the business owner.
